Is God REALLY Enough?

This Sunday we will be begin a new sermon series entitled: “Is God REALLY Enough?” I think we could all agree that we’ve asked ourselves that question a time or two?  I know my heart and mind well enough to realize that sometimes I begin to wonder or even doubt. A popular Christian song, “Fear is a Liar”, boldly reminds us that fear comes from Satan, and Jesus told us what a LIAR Satan is! Having said that, even though I know that God loves me and that He is enough; at times it is so easy to allow my thoughts to wander with such things as, “I don’t deserve this,” “Life’s not fair,” and “Why me Lord?” Have you ever noticed that what we say that we they believe about God doesn’t always line up with how we respond to challenges in life? On Sunday mornings, with hands raised, we declare that God is enough and we surrender all...but is that really how we feel and act when our life is turned upside down?

Paul says in Philippians 4:19 “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

For this to be true, we must offer our lives as a living sacrifice, being surrendered to Christ, meaning completely and totally. And yet, when we wonder if God is really enough, we’re basically admitting that we’re not fully surrendered. I know how difficult this is to accept, but it is simply the truth. Rather than asking, Is God REALLY Enough?”, perhaps a better question to ask ourselves is, “Am I REALLY Surrendered?” I realize this might be a difficult question for us to ask ourselves, and even more difficult to answer. But if we have to ask it, it is probable that we likely know that we aren’t.

That brings us to another question: What do I love most?  Humanity is easily controlled by what it loves most. Good desires can quickly become lusts, when you lose sight of your greatest need: Jesus Christ.  Either God controls you and is satisfying you, or something/someone else is. We cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). Friends, the Truth is, God is enough; He always has been, and always will be. The real question is: Do we see Him as enough? If we allow God to be in control, and if we always seek Him, we’ll soon see that He is plenty. It has been said, “...you cannot out-give God.” True. But do we really believe this, and live our lives that way? Because if we say yes to both, God will prove His worth to us, and then some!  And that’s a pretty good place to be...don’t you think?
