SCRIPTURE: Luke 6:37-42 emphasis on v.37 (AMP) - " Do not judge [others self-righteously], and you will not be judged; do not condemn [others when you are guilty and unrepentant], and you will not be condemned [for your hypocrisy]; pardon [others when they truly repent and change], and you will be pardoned [when you truly repent and change].
Love this commentary, "None of us are in a position to assess the motivations of the human heart—especially when it comes to another’s service to the Lord. While the Bible does instruct us to react in a certain way to sinful behavior (1 Cor. 5:2), we are not to judge anyone’s intentions. Often, our opinion of their actions has more to do with our own failings than theirs (Luke 6:36–49)." (Charles Stanley; Life Principles Bible Notes). We are not to condemn true discernment either; how else do we hold others accountable when they may be falling away? What we do not do is judge in a hypercritical, hypocritical, self-righteous, or unfairly way because we create our own standard, a sinner's standard, of what is acceptable when we do. Dr. Tony Evans' story, "When my son was eleven years old, he wanted to show me how he could dunk a basketball in the gym. The problem was that he had asked a janitor to lower the rim so that he could dunk it. Those who hypocritically judge others use a standard, but it isn’t God’s. It’s been lowered."
