James 2:14-26

  1. According to the Apostle Paul. (Romans 4:1-5)
    • The Jews first thought the Gospel was only for them.¬† (Acts 11:19)
    • Paul said that salvation was not through the law. (Romans 3:27-28)
    • Paul also showed that actions alone nor circumcision could save.
    • Yet Paul continually¬† reminded them of the necessity of actions.
  1. According to the Apostle James. (James 2:14-26)
    • Question: Will faith without deeds/actions save? (v. 14)
    • Faith without deeds/works/action…is dead. (vv. 14-20)
    • Justification is by actions. (vv. 21-25)
    • James does not deny salvation by faith, but he does deny justification by faith alone. (James 2:14-26 NASB)
  1. Why Paul and James do not contradict.
    • Paul refers to the Salvation of Sinners, whereas James refers to the Justification of Christians.
    • James speaks of justification before men. – James 2:18
    • Paul writes of true faith, whereas James writes of false faith. (James 2:18)
