Matthew 5:9

  1. The peace of God.
    • Peace with God can only be found in Christ. (John 16:31-33; Rom 5:1)
    • Peace comes through a knowledge of Christ. (2 Pet 1:2–4)
    • For the Christian, the peace with God will guard your life. (Phil 4:6–9)
  1. Things that destroy peace.
    • Contentiousness. (Proverbs 26:21)
    • Gossip and slander. (Proverbs 16:28; 26:20)
    • Seeking personal vengeance. (Romans 12:19)
  1. Are you a peacemaker?
    • Peace must be pursued. (1 Peter 3:10-12; Psalm 34:12-16)
    • The peacemaker practices biblical peace.
    • The “golden rule” is a great place to start. (Matt 7:12)
    • Being a peacemaker also involves:
    • Reconciliation takes precedence over worship. (Matt 5:22–25; 18:15–20)
    • There are divine limitations to peace. (Luke 12:51–53; Acts 5:29)
  1. The promised blessing.
    • What does this Beatitude promise?
    • God’s calling is a recognition of people for what they are.
    • We shall be called “blessed”.
    • It defines our heritage.
    • It is our right of inheritance.
