Are You Qualified?

By Kris Robinson

Daniel 1

Dan. 1:3-4 – Leadership Qualifications

“Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring into the king’s service some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility — young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians.”

Ever had a job interview that were a life or death situation?  For Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, & Azariah, that was the case!  For some, we remember the torture of the questions being asked, sitting there wondering if this will ever be over; probably thinking to ourselves, “just give me the job already!”  Not so for these deported men, if they do not fulfill the requirements of the king; as Ken “Hawk” Harrelson would say, “He Gone!”

So, what qualities did the king seek?  (John Maxwell Leadership Bible)

  1. Young (v.4) – They were youths, young enough to be trained
  2. Sharp-looking (v.4) – Well-groomed & well-dressed
  3. Intelligent (v.4) – They had good minds and could process information quickly
  4. Diverse skills (v.4) – They displayed a variety of skills
  5. Competent (v.4) – Showed wisdom in using their skills to achieve results
  6. Servant’s Heart (v.4) – They served others however they might be needed
  7. Teachable (vv.4,5) – They were able and hungry to learn new concepts

God qualifies the called; this isn’t an exclusive, absolute list! If you believe in Jesus Christ, you are qualified; one could say, “you are over-qualified!” because of the power at which you could operate (Jn. 14:12).

That being said, when applied to your current spiritual condition you have at least one of these qualifications; what do you think it is and why?

Do you disqualify yourself because you are afraid that service in the Kingdom is a life and death situation?

Then, is God big enough to take care of you and keep you?

Lastly, ask yourself, “If I were Senior Pastor, wouldn’t I want such emerging leaders, with these qualifications, working aside me?”

Share on the FLCC Facebook page what characteristic you think you may have and what you want to do about it.
